Welcome to the first post of Forteania- my name is Tony from the weekly Podcast You'll Know When You're Dead which can be found at ykwyad.blospot.com. I will be taking you through a journey of varied Fortean topics on a daily or semi-daily basis. Before we begin I would like to take just a moment to introduce you to the world of Charles Fort.  

Born in 1864 Fort never excelled in academics though he had a very sharp wit and great sense of humor, in his early years he traveled  the world journeying throughout the US, Europe and Africa. Eventually falling ill he returned home to New York. By 1916 an Uncle passed leaving him a decent inheritance that enabled him to quit his day job and pursue his hobby of collecting strange news reports from around the world. Some of the more famous, or infamous, kinds of topics Fort found include:

• Falls of frogs, fish, blood, and other assorted things 
• The Airship wave of the 1890's
• Disappearance of persons 
• Spontaneous Human Combustion
• Early Alien Abduction reports 
• and more

Eventually Fort would collect these into four volumes; The Book of the Damned, New Lands, Lo!, Strange Talents
