Coincidence? Or Unified Field Theory?

When many people begin to take an interest in Fortean phenomenon they usually pick one area of interest. The UFO people tend to stay with UFO's, the Ghost people only hunt for Ghosts, and Bigfoot people look for Bigfoot. On rare occasions however some of these paranormal investigators begin to realize that perhaps there is some kind of overlap between them. The modern examples of this are people like Christopher O'Brien, Nick Redfern, and Greg Bishop.





These modern examples of people who are at least open to a Unified Field Theory of the Paranormal or Fortean phenomenon, or a theory that can encompass and potentially explain all of the strange occurences, are taking a page directly from Charles Fort. When Fort first collected the newspaper clippings from around the world he began to believe that a pattern of some kind existed between these seemingly differing events. Although he was never able to prove any kind of real discernible pattern he sought it out all of his life. Never one to believe in coincidences, he once remarked;

"But my liveliest interest is not so much in things, as in relations of things. I have spent much time thinking about the alleged pseudo-relations that are called coincidences. What if some of them should not be coincidence?"

Perhaps he was right. After all many researchers have been quick to point out that Bigfoot are often sighted in the same area that UFO's are seen. Additionally many Alien Abductees often experience polteirgeist phenomenon after returning from aboard the "Alien" craft. Although it may seem strange to try to find a link between these things, the more you look into them the more you may find yourself agreeing with Fort and start seeing the patterns. Besides one of these days we may be able to have that Unified Field Theory after all.
